Where to Live Within 20 Minutes of Fort Bragg Gates

If you want to live about 20 minutes from a Fort Bragg gate, start by comparing selected addresses in North Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Anderson Creek, Spout Springs, western Fayetteville, Haymount, and northeastern Hoke County. The right starting point depends on your workplace and gate. These are search areas, not guaranteed commute zones: traffic, gate access, and travel on post can change the total drive.

By James M. Walker, All American Realty Group. Search areas and route checks, not guaranteed commute times.

James M. Walker is a real estate agent with All American Realty Group. He has lived in the Fayetteville area for more than 35 years, and when someone asks where to buy near Fort Bragg, his first question is:

“Where will you actually work?”

A house can be close to the installation and still put you on the wrong side of it for your daily routine.

Here’s where James recommends starting your search when your goal is roughly 20 minutes to a gate.

The video gives rough estimates; the article below explains why each address needs its own route check, and corrects the gate numbers the video swaps.

Which areas should you compare first?

Start with the gate serving your daily workplace, then compare individual properties along the routes leading to it.

If you have not picked a gate yet, read Which Fort Bragg Gate Should You Live Near? first.

A mailing address alone will not tell you whether a property meets your commute goal.

Where should you look for the north-side gates?

Spring Lake, selected North Fayetteville neighborhoods, and nearby parts of Harnett County are useful starting points for northern gate access.

Depending on the property and your destination, routes may involve Honeycutt Road, R. Miller, or Manchester Road.

Heading beyond Spring Lake brings Anderson Creek and Spout Springs into the conversation. In James’s local home searches, these are areas he discusses with buyers interested in newer homes, different lot options, and communities outside Fayetteville’s city setting.

But both cover more ground than a single neighborhood entrance. One property may fit your target drive while another adds considerably more time.

If you’re assigned to Pope Army Airfield, start with your actual workplace and ask your sponsor which entrance makes sense before choosing a community.

What if you want Fayetteville conveniences nearby?

North Fayetteville is worth comparing if you want access to shopping and restaurants while investigating northern gate routes.

Kings Grant and College Lakes are two areas James discusses with buyers looking around the Ramsey Street corridor.

Rather than treating everything between Ramsey Street and Country Club Drive as one commute zone, compare the individual address, neighborhood exit, and route to the gate.

Also consider your everyday routine. Would you rather be closer to groceries and activities, or trade some convenience for a different setting?

Explore the North Fayetteville and community guides for a closer look at available locations.

Can Haymount or western Fayetteville fit a 20-minute gate goal?

Selected addresses may fit an approximately 20-minute drive to an appropriate gate under some conditions, but the route needs checking.

For these searches, James looks at access toward Yadkin Road and the Reilly Road approach to Rock Merritt Avenue.

Haymount may interest buyers who want an established setting near downtown Fayetteville. Western Fayetteville offers additional search options along and around Reilly Road and Cliffdale Road.

Farther southwest, properties near Stoney Point Road and the Jack Britt area need their own route checks. James does not promise a 20-minute drive across that entire area.

For established homes, the commute is only part of the evaluation. Roof condition, HVAC age, plumbing, electrical updates, and professional inspections deserve attention too.

What about Raeford and Hoke County?

Selected properties in northeastern Hoke County may be worth investigating for access toward Chicken Road or Longstreet.

For clarity, Longstreet is Gate 1 and Chicken Road is Gate 2. Some videos and older listings swap those two, so double-check the name before you judge a route.

A Raeford mailing address can describe homes in different parts of Hoke County. It does not automatically mean the property is in the City of Raeford or within 20 minutes of a gate.

James discusses this area with buyers interested in new construction and alternatives to Fayetteville’s more developed settings. The exact location, lot, builder, and route still determine whether it fits.

Before choosing a home, compare both the entrance you expect to use and an alternate route.

Explore the Raeford and Hoke County community information before narrowing your search.

Does 20 minutes to the gate mean 20 minutes to work?

No. Your complete commute includes the drive to the entrance, any gate queue, and the remaining drive to your workplace.

That last part is easy to overlook when you’re shopping from another state or overseas.

Before relying on a listing’s commute claim:

  1. Confirm your routine workplace with your sponsor.
  2. Identify a suitable gate and check its current status.
  3. Compare the property’s route at your expected reporting time.
  4. Include the drive after entering the installation.
  5. Test the route in person when possible.

If you’re buying remotely, James can discuss the route during your home search. Your sponsor can help confirm the on-post portion.

How does the All American Gate closure affect your search?

The closure makes it especially important to evaluate current routes rather than rely on older commute estimates.

The All American Gate closure began July 27, 2026, as part of a project scheduled for up to two years. The Visitor Control Center remains open, but that does not mean the gate is available for through traffic.

Alternate approaches can change which properties make sense for your daily drive.

Check official Fort Bragg road and gate information before traveling. Gate hours and construction conditions can change.
